Curt Allison, Minister of Urban Outreach, Founder of the The Word is Out LGBT Spirituality Groups
Curt founded and leads The Word is OUT!! LGBT spirituality group, a place for GLBT people of faith to integrate their spirituality and sexuality, and to meet and build community. Coming from a variety of backgrounds members all share the common desire to grow in spirit, be nourished on their journeys, and to experience the Holy within a community of like-minded people. Curt also serves on the Board of Directors of BJUnity, an outreach to former students of Bob Jones University (and other conservative colleges) to provide a safe harbor—a network of people and resources—for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and straight affirming people affected by fundamentalist Christianity. His mission is “to proclaim to LGBTQ people caught in the deception of fundamentalism that God loves you. God accepts you. You are not damaged, or sinful, or broken, or alienated from God. You are God’s beloved child. And you are not alone”. Curt finds great satisfaction in helping others discover and live their full potential in the body of Christ with honesty, integrity and authenticity. His passion for music and inclusive church communities has also led him to serve the greater community of the United Church of Canada through music leadership at a variety of national and regional events including the Imagine LGBT weekend retreat.
